Meet The Angler: Zach Axtman

June 23, 2021 8:03 pm

Zach Axtman is from Rugby, North Dakota. Being an avid tournament fisherman, Zach has fished some of the major circuits in the walleye world.

Zach first started following walleye tournament fishing during the early PWT tournaments and got a passion for tournament fishing once he was out of college. Axtman is also a 5-time MWC championship qualifier and most notably had a very impressive win in the NWT Lake Winnebago event held in 2019.

When Zach isn’t on the water, he is spending time with his fiance Alli and two young chocolate labs. Zach and Alli are excited to be getting married in fall 2021 in Mexico. Zach also enjoys pheasant hunting once he puts the boat away for the open water season.

For Zach, being a part of the process to pick the bodies of water for the PWS series was awesome and he couldn’t be more excited to fish the entire series. Like many of the anglers, Zach likes the fact that there will be events held on bodies of water that are relatively new to the major circuits in the walleye world. The Lake Wisconsin event stands out to Axtman because he doesn’t know much about it and there isn’t a lot of information out there online for that body of water. He  says that is the most exciting part for the tournament side because he has to figure out the fish and everything else will fall into place. One of the main goals for Zach in 2021 is to make it to the PWS championship and make it out to New York!
