Bass League Event 1 Breakdown!

May 13, 2025 1:46 pm

Bass League Event 1 on Little Lake Butte Des Morts did not disappoint! We saw multiple largemouth and smallmouth over 4 lbs, including a 4-12 largemouth from Fredrick/Twardowski. We saw four of the ten teams crest the 40lb mark, and we saw an average winning weight of 32-10!

We witnessed a phenomenal match between Tesch/Tesch and Mollica/Gagnow. Tony Mollica and Jeff Gagnow had a great day, putting 40-8 on the scales, yet still lost to Ben and Brian Tesch, who caught 56-7! The Teschs executed a smallmouth game plan to perfection, starting the event with 36-6. They caught the majority of their fish dragging a tube and a ned rig.

Wa Meng Lee and Chee Meng Lee battled boat problems early in their match, but it did not slow them down on the way to their victory. They never gave Fredrick/Twardowski much of a chance to catch up, as they consistently put nice fish in the boat. They put 38-3 on the scales, doing a mix of smallmouth and largemouth fishing with a jig, a swimbait, and a tube.

Tycian Hanson and Kyle Pohjola started without a fish in the first quarter but hammered down after that! After their slow start, they put up 18-9 in the second quarter, giving them a strong lead over Stefan/Stefan. They maintained that lead for the rest of the match, ending with a 32-0 victory. They employed a shallow water largemouth game plan, both flipping shoreline cover and winding a bladed jig around submergent vegetation.

Our tightest match of the day was between Neubauer/Neubauer and Richard/Hanmann. Both teams had tougher days, but Grant and Dale Neubauer grinded out the win with 12-8! The Neubauers caught all smallmouth and focused most of their day on offshore rock piles. They caught the majority of their fish dragging tubes.

Team Van Ert kicked off their season with a victory over Kuehn/Ward. Mitch and Dave Van Ert caught fish consistently throughout their entire match, but had 14-4 in the second quarter, which gave them the lead they needed to ride out a win. They put a total of 24-0 into WeighLive and caught the majority of their fish on a tube and a swimbait fishing current seams.

Overall, it was a great event to kick off the Bass League season! Our anglers will go to battle again, May 21st, on the Winnebago Chain!
