After Wednesday, we will be three events into our seven-event Walleye League season! Event 3 will take place on 5/14/2025 on the Winnebago Chain. Here is what to expect.
Event 2 on the Winnebago Chain is what you would call a grinder. Most teams struggled to crest the 10lb mark in their 4-hour matches, with most of the winners getting the job done with single-digit total weights. This was due to a combination of factors, a strong north-east wind, inconsistent weather, and a major transition period for the fish being the main contributors. However, the conditions for Event 3 look more favorable. A light east breeze, stable temps, and a week’s worth of progression into the walleyes’ seasonal migration are all signs pointing to a better bite. We saw our anglers base their days around high percentage transition areas and struggle to move around due to the conditions in Event 2. Event 3 looks much more favorable for anglers to move around, locate active schools of fish, and target them effectively. All of that being said, after Event 3, certain teams will be in a great position to make the bracket championship, while others will find themselves in a dire situation. Here are two matchups to keep an eye on during Event 3.
Matchup #1: Derlein/Berriochoa vs. Grams/Grams. Both of these teams took a loss in Event 2 and are looking to right the ship in Event 3. Derlein//Berriochoa have started strong in both of the first two events, but haven’t been able to close the deal and get a win. They now sit at 0-2 coming into Event 3. It is crazy to say that the 3rd event of the season is a must-win, but to start the season 0-3 would make a playoff berth very difficult. On the flip side, Grams/Grams edged out a victory in Event 1 but put up a blank in Event 2. Although they sit at 1-1 on the season, they currently have the lowest season total weight, which is a critical tie-breaker to make the playoffs. Another tough loss in this event might spell trouble for their playoff hopes.
Matchup #2: Mootz/Mootz vs. Daun/Jodar. Both of these teams got a win in Event 2 and got some positive momentum going. Both of these teams would also consider themselves very proficient on the Winnebago Chain. Team Mootz did themselves a huge favor getting a win in Event 2, getting themselves back to 1-1 on the season, and boosting their season total weight. A win in this one would solidify their winning record on the Winnebago Chain and put them in a great spot as we approach the halfway point in the season. Team Daun/Jodar is one of the hottest teams going this season; they are one of two that currently sit undefeated, and they have the momentum on their side. A win in Event 3 would put them in a great spot, not only to make the playoffs but also to keep them in the conversation for the #1 seed and the first-round bye in the bracket.
These are just two of the five great matchups we will get to see in Event 3. Be sure to tune in this Wednesday at 6:45 am on PHYXTV, YouTube, and Facebook to catch all of the H2H action!
